The Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) on Sunday rebounded from losing first innings points to homesters Police Sports Club to record a five-wicket victory at the Police Sports Club ground in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Hadi’s first division two day tournament.
Batting first, Police scored 211 in 58.4 overs. Reginald Rodrigues scored 62, Vishal Jaigobin 50 and Pernell London 28. Bowling for GNIC Orlando Kirton took 3-39, Collis Butts 3-46 and Matthew Marks 2-36.
GNIC, in their first innings, fell for just 137 to concede a lead of 74. Mark Nicholas scored 34 and Ryan Shun 23 not. Leg spinner London claimed 5-32 and Sheldon Agard 2-6.
With a handy lead Police slumped to 54 all out in 24.5 overs as Butts spun his way to 6-12 from nine overs to effectively turn the tide of the match. Deswyn Butts supported with 2-15 from eight overs for GNIC, who went on to complete a five wicket win.
With 128 required for victory, GNIC reached 131/5 in 31 overs. Elton Baker scored 71 and Ejaz Mohamed 37 for the victors. Troy Benn ended with 4/47.
At Thomas Lands, Keon Morris and Kevin Ross bowled Transport Sports Club to a 10-wicket victory over Malteenoes Sports Club.
Sent in, TSC, at one stage 75-5 reached 244 all out in 53 overs with Azim Azeez, 57 and Jonathan Alphonso 48, the principal scorers. Shaquille Williams, 4-44, and Kwame Crosse 2-20 were the main wicket-takers.
Malteenoes, in reply, fell for 130 in 51 overs with Delvon McEwan’s 51 being the only score of note. Seamer Morris claimed 6-25 and Ewert Samuel 2-11.
Following on Malteenoes were restricted to 135 in 47 overs. Kwame Crosse made 35 and Shaquille Williams 22. Off-spinner Ross bagged 5-20 while Azeez supported with 3-42. Transport reached 22 without loss in 5.3 overs to secure the win.
At Camp Road, DCC and Everest Cricket Club played to a tame draw. DCC won the toss and compiled 287 in 89 overs. Under 19 wicketkeeper/batsman Kemol Savory hit his maiden first division century, top scoring with 118. The left-hander’s patient innings began before lunch and ended just after tea.
He hit 15 fours and one six. Former Test batsman Travis Dowlin scored 57, and Andrew Lyght Jnr., 35. Left arm spinner Javed Rasheed collected 5-43 while off spinner Christopher Surat took 2-46.
Everest were dismissed for 166 in 61 overs. Chanderpaul Hemraj hit the top score of 39 and Ryan Dhanraj scored 36. Left arm pacer Andrew Stoll took three wickets while Cavell Reece took two. DCC reached 113-3 in 25 overs in their second innings. Andrew Gibson made 52 not out and Jahron Byron 39 not out. The competition is expected to continue this weekend.
