Slingerz Football Club on Sunday defeated Den Amstel Porknockers 3-0 to win the inaugural Stag Beer West Side Mashramani Cup at the Den Amstel ground.
Olvis Mitchell netted a double and Anthony Harding the other goal.
Slingerz FC coach Gordon Braithwaite in an invited comment stated that he was impressed by his team’s performance and pleased about the way they are currently growing and coming together.
“It was a dominant victory, my charges showed character, composure and maturity in the way they went about accomplishing this task and I am very pleased with the way the team is growing as a unit,” he told Stabroek Sport in an invited comment.
Slingerz took the lead through an Anthony Harding header in the 27th minute while Mitchell opened his account in the 45th minute when he capitalized on a Rondel Hudson goal keeping error as the Den Amstel custodian fumbled from a resulting Dwayne Jacobs attempt near halftime. Mitchell completed his brace in the 49th minute as he skillfully evaded two defenders with his silky footwork before unleashing a thunderous right foot strike, leaving the Porknockers custodian with simply no chance.
In the curtain raiser Seawall United edged Uitvlugt 3-2 through strikes from Mark Boyce, Winston Johnson and Adami Hoyte in the 19th, 52nd and 71st minutes respectively.
On target for the losers were Jamaal Harvey, who netted in the 77th minute and Charles Stoby one minute later. The winners received a trophy and $500,000 with the runners-up receiving $300,000 and a trophy.
Seawall United, received $150,000 and a trophy for third place while fourth placed Uitvlugt received $50,000 and a trophy.
Anthony Harding of Slingerz was adjudged the Golden Ball Winner and received $50,000 and a new 32 inch flat screen television while Ronson Williams also of Slingerz FC was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper. Mitchell was the winner of the Golden Boot.
