Fisherman reeled in for assault of partner

A fisherman accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend was yesterday refused bail after Magistrate Judy Latchman noted that he had a pending matter but has not been attending court.

Damien Allicock was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for the alleged March 2nd assault of Tenecia Adams at James Street, Albouystown.

Allicock initially pleaded guilty but changed it to not guilty after he disputed the details of the incident.

Police Prosecutor Renetta Bentham stated that Allicock and Bentham, who had been living together for the past four months, had a misunderstanding and the man dragged the woman down a stairway.

She added that a report was made to the police, which resulted in Allicock’s arrest.
When asked if he dragged Adams down the stairway, Allicock said, “The stair has five stairs and I only pulled her down two.”

The matter was adjourned for a few minutes and when it was called again Allicock changed his plea to not guilty.

When asked by the magistrate, Allicock stated that he had a pending charge for breaking and entering. But the court noted that he had another pending matter before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry but he has not been attending court.

Allicock, however, denied knowing about the matter before the Chief Magistrate.
Allicock was subsequently remanded to prison and the case was adjourned until March 20.
