The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has released a list of players that have been shortlisted to represent Guyana at the Caribbean Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from April 2-8.
According to a GTTA press release, the selection committee decided on 21 players from which the final players will be chosen for the tournament next month.
The players shortlisted are: Girls 18 years and Under Chelsea Edghill, Akecia Nedd, Anna Joao and Jewel Todd.
Girls 15 Years and Under:Priscilla Greaves, Kristie Lopes, Salanas Jackman and Neveah Clarkston. Boys 15 Years and Under: Shemar Britton, Kyle Edghill, Elishaba Johnson, Scott Garraway, Sheldon Atherley (Bartica), Miguel Wong, Nicholas Lawrence (Berbice) Alex Hopkinson. Boys 18 years and under Stephan Corlette, David Duncan, Joshua Lalbachan (Berbice),Bryton Murray ( Kevon Corbin.
Clarkston and Salema Jackman, the two youngsters on the girls 15 and under squad are eligible to compete at the pre-cadet (11 years and under) level according to the GTTA. According to the release The GTTA is of the opinion that should the two players make the final cut, the exposure will be an asset to them ahead of their participation at the Caribbean Pre-cadet championships.
The pre-cadet championships are expected to be held in Guyana in July and it is the GTTA’s hope that Clarkson and Jackman can strengthen the girls Under 13 category which is expected to include reigning silver medallist Priscilla Greaves and bronze medallist Kristie Lopes respectively.
There will also need to be playoffs to determine the final players in the boys 18 and under and 15 and under teams as those age groups are extremely competitive according to the GTTA release.
