Taffin Khan won the senior category and Anthony Drayton the junior category of the Diamond Mineral Water-sponsored Mashramani Blitz chess tournament held Sunday at the West Demerara Secondary School.
The two players ended the seven round tournament with one defeat each.
Drayton, who lost in the fourth round to Alexander Duncan, bother of former national players Aggrey and Trevor, rebounded to defeat Khan in the fifth round.
Both players ended on six points.
The points standings after seven rounds read: Khan and Drayton six points each, Duncan five points, Dravin Drickpaul, Roberto Neto and Carlos Petterson four points each and Trenton Bennett scored three and a half points.
Drickpaul, of West Demerara Secondary, placed second in the junior category with Neto of Diamond Secondary, third.
Petterson was fourth while Bennett was adjudged the best under-16 player in the tournament.
Each player was given 20 minutes in each round to score a win.
