Two persons, including a juvenile, were yesterday charged with robbing a woman of her gold necklace during an attack at Festival City, South Ruimveldt.
The charge levelled against Laurex Hinds, 19 of Lot 1883 Festival City and a teenaged co-accused, of Tucville, is that on February 16, at Georgetown, they stole a gold necklace, valued at $150,000, from Cheryl Best.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The police’s case is that on February 16, at about 6:30pm, Best was walking on a street in Festival City when the defendants attacked her from behind and relieved her of her necklace and made good their escape on a pedal cycle. The matter was reported and the accused were subsequently held.
The two were represented by attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who stated that both defendants were employed at the John Fernandes Wharf as labourers.
Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar did not object to the two being admitted to bail, which was set at $75,000.
The matter will be called again on May 3.
