Scotiabank today said that Guyanese Collis Augustine is one of 12 winners of its inaugural Scotiabank Bright Future Young Leaders Award.
A release today from the bank said that the award recognizes youths who make an outstanding contribution to their communities. Augustine has won an Ipad for himself and Cdn$2,500 will be donated to a charity of his choice.
Augustine, according to the release, started volunteering with the Guyana Red Cross Society in April 2011. He notched up over 1300 volunteer hours in HIV/AIDS awareness, blood drives and nursing care at the Children’s Convalescent Home among other activities.
He was congratulated by Guyana Country Manager Amanda St. Aubyn who said that Augustine was a “shining example of youth who have the passion and commitment to make an important impact on their community”.
Augustine was one of three from the Caribbean, the other two hailing from Jamaica. The other nine came from Canada, 6, and Chile,3.
