A man was yesterday remanded to prison on a robbery under arms charge, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on February 17, at West Ruimveldt, Sherwin Trotman, 27, of South Turkeyen being armed with a gun robbed Nicole Nedd, 45, of a handbag valued at $40,000, two diamond bracelets valued $60,000, two gold chains valued $104,000, an iPad valued $100,000, and US$2,500 ($500,000) along with other items, all totalling $1,214,000.

Trotman, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

As she entered her home at 342 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, the accused, in the company of another, also entered the house. Hunt said they relieved the VC of the cash and the articles mentioned in the charge and made good their escape.

The matter was later reported and an investigation was carried out which led to the accused being identified as one of the persons involved, after he was pointed out on an identification (ID) parade.

When asked by the magistrate if he had any objection to bail, Hunt said that the accused has pending matters before the court which are of similar nature. He also pointed to the seriousness of the offence and the penalty it attracts if the accused is found guilty.

The presiding magistrate, after listening to submissions, remanded Trotman to prison.

He will make his next court appearance today.
