The West Indies Cricket Board today announced that the Guyana Cricket Board has written to advise of the GCB’s ability to host the First Test between West Indies and Pakistan in July, a WICB release said.
The release said that WICB management will now advise the International Fixtures Committee of the assurance from the GCB and await the recommendation of the committee. The Board of Directors will meet later this month in Barbados where the IFC’s recommendations for host venues for the Pakistan tour will be presented and discussed.
The WICB announcement implies that the Guyana Government has conceded to the GCB in its bruising battle with it for control of cricket here. For the Test match to go ahead, the GCB would have had to have government’s permission for the use of the Providence Stadium and the government would in turn have to recognize the GCB as the WICB’s representative here.
