(Jamaica Gleaner) West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) presidential candidate, Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron says if elected he will attempt to transform the fortunes of the regional game.
The 42-year-old Jamaican businessman, who will go up against incumbent Dr Julian Hunte, made the disclosure during the unveiling of his manifesto yesterday.
“The year 2012 created a tremendous amount of publicity for the elite team, as they won the shortened version of the game,” said Cameron.
“There were also promising performances in the one-day international, and traditional versions, and the women’s team has also performed creditably.
“These optimistic activities have since opened doors for the rebuilding of a massive cricket industry in the region, something which me and my team are prepared and ready to do,” he added.
The unveiling, which took place at The Courtleigh Hotel, and was attended by cricket officials and corporate executives, also saw Cameron putting forward five platforms on which he plans to manage.
These include increased participation, human resource management, operation, accountability, and responsibility.
“The team I lead will manage, monitor and reinforce ways and means of solidifying partnerships aimed at cricket reclaiming glory, and its rightful place at the summit of the regional sporting framework,” he said.
Cameron, who has been vice-president of the WICB for the past six years, also outlined in the manifesto his planned policies and programmes.
They include improved development of the region’s immense cricketing talent, an improvement in revenue growth, and the strengthening of Caribbean unity and pride.
“My focus will be to lead a team to refocus cricket’s attention on being the highest income earner for sport in the region,” he said.
The election for president will be held later this month in Barbados during the board’s annual general meeting.
