The New Opportunity Corps (NOC) on Thursday received a quantity of sports gear including footballs, basketballs, volleyballs and table tennis and cricket gear from the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO), a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.
PAHO/WHO Senior Advisor in Sustainable Development and Environmental Health Adrianus Vlugman handed over the items and urged the NOC inmates to use them to remain physically active and healthy.
GINA said that Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony expressed the ministry’s gratitude to the organisation for providing the gear to the NOC.
He took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of the students in sports, as they have been the top players in the national netball programme, and they had performed well at the recent Region Two athletics events.
Sports organiser of the NOC Brandon Cabose also thanked PAHO/WHO for the donation, promising that the residents will take care of the items and will put them to good use.
He said that the institution over the years has been able to provide a period of training and social rehabilitation for the youths who were sent there via the courts.
