Gloria Chase, an unemployed mother of seven, is reaching out to the public for financial assistance for her son, Dennis Abrams, 30, who is suffering from a tumour located in his lower spine.
Chase, who is currently unable to work because she has to take care of her son on a full-time basis, said the condition surfaced about seven years ago. She noted that he began to limp and this forced her to take him to several doctors. However, they were unable to diagnose the problem. She was advised to speak to a Trinidadian neurosurgeon who was visiting the Davis Memorial Hospital at the time. He was able to diagnose that Abrams had a tumour, but asked that a MRI be conducted to confirm this.
After the discovery of the tumour, Chase said, he had an operation done at the Mount Hope Hospital in Trinidad. However, the tumour has since grown back.
Abrams now needs $2 million or TT$7,2000 for a second operation. The government through the Ministry of Health has pledged to give $1 million and the family is soliciting the remainder through public assistance.
The surgery will be done at the St Clair Medical Centre in Trinidad and this should be followed by radiation treatments to the thoracic spine to prevent any reoccurrence.
Those desirous of rendering assistance to the operation can deposit cash in Account 161-308-2 at Republic Bank, or contact the family on telephone numbers 696-3560, 687-7213 and 223-0451.
