A man who was allegedly found with an illegal gun and matching ammunition was yesterday remanded to prison.
The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that Shevon Rodriguez on March 8, at Albouystown, had a .38 Taurus revolver with five matching rounds in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition when it was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick told the court that police made the discovery after noticing that Rodriguez was acting in a suspicious manner.
Bostwick objected to bail given the seriousness of the offence and the punishment it attracts.
The case was then transferred to the court of Magistrate Judy Latchman for reports and fixtures.
Police Prosecutor Renetta Bentham retained Bostwick’s objection to bail and the presiding magistrate remanded Rodriguez to prison until March 18.
