(Trinidad Express) The husband and manager of soca artiste Denise Belfon appeared in court yesterday charged with sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman.
Mack Karr, 44, a father of four, was taken to court with bandages on the head and right hand.
Belfon was not present for the hearing.
Minutes after Chaguanas First Court Magistrate Gillian Scotland read the charge, the alleged victim broke down in tears in court and police prosecutor Sgt Michael Jackman said she did not want the case to proceed.
Jackman told the magistrate: “The victim is young and she has been through a trauma. It wouldn’t be fair. She is not level-headed to make a decision in this matter.”
Scotland told the woman she would be relieved from attending court until the court was ready to hear her testimony.
The victim, still crying, was led out of the courtroom by a police officer.
Karr’s attorney, Richard McLeod, in applying for bail, said Karr had no previous or pending convictions.
The charge, as laid by PC Andre Forgenie of the Chaguanas CID, alleges that on Saturday Karr committed grievous sexual assault against the woman, a dancer.
Magistrate Scotland granted bail in the sum of TT$65,000 and warned Karr not to make direct or indirect contact with the victim.
He was also warned to stay 100 metres away from the woman.
The case was postponed to May 8.
