Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie yesterday said that following their break from the West Indies Cricket Board’s Regional Four Day and Super50 competitions the national cricket team will engage the Combined Campuses and Colleges team in a four-day fixture at the Providence National Stadium.
The regional competitions have been suspended for one week because of the ongoing first test match between the West Indies and Zimbabwe in Barbados.
Sanasie, who returned yesterday from Trinidad yesterday confirmed that Guyana will play their next two matches of the regional season at home.
Guyana’s first home game will be a four day match against the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) team from March 30- April 2. Afterwards they change formats and resume battle against CCC in a 50-over day/night game on April 4.
Guyana will play Jamaica on April 7 in a Super League 50-overs-a-side match, followed by the four day game from April 10-13.
Sanasie also made mention of the ongoing situation involving the Pakistan Cricket team’s tour of the Caribbean this July.
He said that the game originally scheduled to be played at the Guyana National Stadium will indeed be hosted there following an agreement between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the Guyana Government.
Initially, the WICB, the GCB and the government were required to sign copies of the International Venue Agreement but the government according to information reaching this newspaper, balked at the involvement of the GCB as requested that the GCB be removed as a signatory.
The WICB and the Government subsequently agreed to shelve the IVA which deals at length with issues such as ambush marketing, commercial rights and merchandising to name a few and the government in turn sent a letter to the WICB indicating its willingness to rent the Providence National Stadium for the first test match between the West Indies and Pakistan.
Among the terms and conditions specified in the letter sent by Michael Muirhead Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the West Indies Board to the government are the following:
1. The WICB will pay a rental fee is $20,000.00 USD.
2. The WICB will pay a share of the perimeter board sales of $20,000.00 USD
3. The Guyana National Stadium Authority will agree to comply with the directive of the WICB and/or its agents with regard to the management of the Test Match.
4. The Government of Guyana acknowledges that all Commercial Rights in and to the Test Match belong to the WICB
5. The Government of Guyana recognizes the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) as the agent appointed by the WICB to manage the match on its behalf.
“We are willing to accept such a letter as support for a commitment from the Government of Guyana to make the Guyana National Stadium available for the Pakistan Test Match,” Muirhead wrote.
