The Guyana National Cricket team along with their coach and manager arrived back home yesterday after competing valiantly in the first leg of the Regional Four Day and Super50 cricket tournaments.
The tournaments have been shelved for one week. The national team is also granted a one week break effectively giving the players two weeks in total to get some well needed rest and to reflect on their past performances.
It will also give some players an opportunity to get in some overtime training in order to get ready for the remainder of the season.
Guyana’s last match was against arch rivals Trinidad and Tobago on Monday in a Super50 encounter at the Queen’s Park Oval. The locals went down to the Trinidadians by two wickets after losing outright by 45 runs in the four day fixture.
The players, however can now look forward to having a bit of ‘home field advantage’ when the tournament resumes as their next few matches will be played at home where they are more familiar with the conditions.
Guyana’s first match, when the competition resumes, will be a four-day game scheduled for March 30- April 2 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence against the Combined ampuses and Colleges team.
