The Georgetown mayor and city councillors has announced that an election for the office of deputy mayor will be held tomorrow at 10am in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Councillor Patricia Chase-Green has been acting as deputy mayor since the passing of Robert Williams last year.
In a press release, the City Council said the election is in keeping with the Municipal and District Councils Act Chapter 28:01 15-17 which states that if a vacancy should occur in the office of the deputy mayor prior to the retirement of the holder at the expiration of his term of office, the town clerk shall call a meeting to elect a councillor to the post.
It further states that the elected office bearer should hold that office for the unexpired portion of the term of office of the person whom he succeeds, at the expiration of which he should retire.
