Nigel Dodson walked out of court a free man yesterday after his drug trafficking case was dismissed by Magistrate Leron Daly.
It had been alleged that on December 4, 2012, at Stabroek, Dodson, 46, of Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park, had in his possession nine and a half grammes of cannabis, for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the prosecution’s case, on December 4, 2012, Dodson was in the vicinity of Lance Photo Studio near Stabroek Market, when he was observed by two police officers dressed in plain clothes.
Upon seeing them, it was alleged, Dodson dropped the black plastic bag which was in his hand and kicked it under a fridge.
Police Prosecutor Vinetta Pindar, in her closing submissions, told the court that the accused had the illegal substance; he knew what was in the bag and he tried to get rid of it.
Pindar pointed out that the witness had said that he approached the defendant when he observed him drop the black plastic bag.
After the prosecutor’s submissions, however, the magistrate informed Dodson that the evidence was weak and that his matter was dismissed.
Dodson was represented by attorney James Bond.
