Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United will open the second round of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League in the feature game of a double header against Pele Football Club on Sunday.
Andrew Murray Jr, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Dwight Peters and Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams will lead ‘The Hammer’ in their encounter against Pele. The opening clash starts at 6pm at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground. Buxton United and Den Amstel Porknockers will also clash at the fixture. Buxton United, the Kashif and Shanghai 2013 Champs will be aiming to defeat the Den Amstel Porknockers to change their rank on the points table which is currently number four. Pele (15 points) is one point ahead.
Another double header featuring the Amelia’s Ward Panthers against BV Triumph United and Milerock will be contested at the Wisburg Ground in Linden at 2pm. The main game will be between BCC Rosignol United and Milerock.
The lone game at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground pits the Uitvlugt Warriors against BK Western Tigers at 4pm.
Regrouping will be a main option for most teams as they aim to better their performances following a competitive first round. This final half of the League will see more determination from the players as the technical staff from each team would have reviewed their players’ individual performance.
Alpha sits at the head of the points table with 22 points from their nine matches which includes a single defeat. Their forward line has shown a great appetite for scoring goals, banging in a total of 39 and letting in a mere 4. Western Tigers are 5 points adrift of the leaders with Pele 2 points further back.
Fans will be anticipating more competitive matches so clubs would have had to be doing their homework.
