The ‘Punisher’ Clive Atwell and Venezuelan Raphael Hernandez will headline the boxing card, Fire Storm on April 20th at the Princess Hotel.
The card which features a number of top fighters was organized by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC).
Atwell and Hernandez are fighting for an opportunity to compete in the Featherweight division at the World Boxing Cup in June. The two were named to compete in a box-off after CABOFE Champion Salvador Sanchez was knocked out in his last bout, thus being unable to represent the federation.
Meanwhile, other fights scheduled on the card are: Mahmood ‘The Extractor’ Loul and Derrick Richmond in the Super Middleweight category.
Gladwin Dorway and Mark Austin will ‘cuff it out’ for the Junior Middleweight title of Guyana, while Sakima Mullings of Jamaica and Miguel Antoine of Barbados will do battle in the welterweight division. This fight like the Atwell/Hernandez match-up became necessary after Guyanese Simeon ‘Candy’ Hardy refused to compete in the World Boxing Cup.
Hardy who was the CABOFE Welterweight champion was forced to relinquish his title after refusing the fight, as such the winner of this fight takes Hardy’s place in the world cup.
Meanwhile, another fight on the card will see Elton ‘Bully’ Dharry taking on Hewley Robinson for the Guyana title.
