The under-construction state-of-the-art rice mill at the Santa Fe mega farm project in Region Nine. The project, which has been undertaken by a Barbadian company, has set up a “thriving” establishment, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA), which yesterday reported that in June a bumper crop is expected. So far, 120 acres of rice is being cultivated and GINA said the project will be expanding with an additional 980 acres by the end of June 2013. As a result, it said, a total of 1000 acres of upland rice would be cultivated with the zero tillage technology/method and rice would no-longer have to be transported to Lethem from Georgetown or Brazil.
