Coach of the Police Progressive Youth Club (PPYC), Mark Scott has replaced Julian Edmonds as coach of the CARIFTA Games track and field team.
Edmonds was originally assigned by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) to coach the team at the upcoming XLII Junior CARIFTA Games in Nassau, The Bahamas from March 28- April 1.
The meet will be held at the Robinson National Stadium.
The sudden replacement was made yesterday morning after Edmonds, coach of the Running Brave Athletics Club, indicated that he would not be able to fulfill the appointed position by the AAG due his job obligations.
The local team which comprises six athletes, Alita Moore, Cassie George, Tirana Mitchell, Jevina Straker, Avon Samuels and Jason Yaw with Amanda Hermonstine as Team Manager will now be under the watchful eyes of Scott, a Level IV athletics coach, majoring in sprints and hurdles.
The team according to the president Aubrey Hutson will depart Guyana on March 24 for Jamaica, before leaving for The Bahamas the following day.
The local athletes will take advantage of the three days leading up to the games to prepare and get acclimatized to the new environment before the game commences.
The overseas-based athletes, Kadeica Baird, Syron McKenzie and Ashley Tasher will join the local team on March 28 and will be accompanied by Baird’s coach Shaun Dietz from the United States of America.
Meanwhile, the AAG president indicated to Stabroek Sport that the tickets for the local athletes have already been booked.
The local team is expected to return on April 4.
