The US Embassy‘s Humanitarian Assistance Project (HAP) last month donated computer equipment to the Kingston Development Centre and the Darul Uloom Academy in Corriverton, Region 6.
The equipment, consisting of 8 computers, 2 printers and a dual voltage converter, was provided by Spirit of America, a US non-governmental organisation. It will help to promote computer literacy, increase educational opportunities, and increase employment opportunities within Corriverton.
A release from the embassy said that Farouk Mohamed Carter, principal of Darul Uloom Academy and Saladin Sadik, director of the Kingston Development Centre received the donation, expressing gratitude to the Embassy and Spirit of America and indicating that the two institutions will use the computers for educational development: computer lessons and job training for students and residents, ages ranging from 12 to 65 years.
Melanie Collins, Director of the HAP team in Guyana said that HAP works to partner with local and international civic organisations to reach common goals of providing support for economic, social and medical development activities of communities.
