Everest Hikers were crowned the Farfan and Mendes first division champions yesterday after they defeated Georgetown Cricket Club at the latter’s home ground 2-1.
Hikers goals were netted by Colonel Heywood and Randy Hope in the 56th and 61st minutes respectively.
GCC had broken the deadlock through a brilliant buildup orchestrated by Orland Semple, who skipped past his marker while laying a beautiful pass to Patrick Edghill who clinically converted in the 21st minute.
Undaunted by the resulting concession, Everest, on the resumption of the second half scored from a short corner as Heywood smartly converted.
Searching for the go ahead goal, Hikers quickly added to their lead when a shot was parried by the GCC custodian in the direction of an unmarked Hope, who capitalized.
In the opening game of the day, Old Fort, through a Tony Cole solo run and finish in the 42nd minute edged Airbenders 1-0 to open the John Fernandes Insurance Service second division league on a winning note.
Action in the John Fernandes Insurance Service second division league continues today at the St Stanilaus ground Carifesta Avenue at 14:30hrs with two fixtures, Everest Hikers taking on All Greys followed by GCC engaging Saints in the feature matchup from 4pm.
