Tevin Garraway returned to the track after a three month hiatus with an awesome sprint of 10.6 seconds to win the 100 metres boys under 20 Guyana Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) third development meet at the Guyana Defence Force ground (GDF), Camp Ayanganna.
The 16-year Garraway, who made the finals in the 100m and 200m at the CARIFTA Games last year in Jamaica, comfortably won his first race since the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) National Schools Championships. Garraway defeated 2012 GTU National U18 100m champion Kevin Abbensetts who placed second in 10.7s while Samuel Doris of Ruralites track club placed third in heat two of the final-by-time event.
Garraway had suffered a hamstring injury prior to GTU Nationals and told Stabroek Sport that he had not trained ever since.
The well-rested athlete said that even though he missed out CARIFTA this year he is hoping to make other regional competitions later this year. Garraway had qualified for the South American Youth Championships in Argentina, but was not sent by the AAG due to insufficient funding.
