A man and his female companion were remanded to prison last week, after they appeared in court charged with having 750 grammes of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on March 13, at 3446 Postal Housing Scheme, North Ruimveldt, Orlando Daniels had in his possession 627 grammes of cannabis and Patricia Pitt had in her possession 123 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Both defendants, who reside at the said location, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them by Magistrate Leron Daly at the George-town Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor Jomo Nichols said that on the day in question officers from the narcotics branch, acting on information, went to the duo’s home. On arrival, they conducted a search on Daniels who was attempting to flush something in a black plastic bag down the toilet.
Nichols also told the court that a search was carried out in the kitchen, where Pitt was found, and a black shoulder bag was found to contain the illegal substance.
He said Daniels admitted ownership of the narcotics and pleaded with the police officers for a chance, while the woman remained silent.
Daniels was represented by attorney-at-law Emily Dodson, while attorney George Thomas represented Pitt.
They were ordered to return to court on May 2.
