(Trinidad Express) A woman’s love for her ailing sister resulted in her choosing to live in their violent Tunapuna neighbourhood and on Friday night she paid
the ultimate price when she was strangled for TT$3,500 and her jewelry.
Police said the victim, 50-year-old Reena Ramkissoon, was killed at her
Pentecostal Road, Tunapuna home shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.
Her husband, Rajdeo Ramkissoon, who spoke to reporters at Forensic
Science Centre in Federation Park yesterday morning, said he was hoping
for an arrest in the case. He said around 11.30 p.m. that night he was at a friend’s home in Aranjuez when neighbours called him and told him what happened.
He said he heard that the killer had carefully removed some glass panes of their bedroom window, entered the house and strangled his wife. Her sister, who was in another room, could do nothing as she has been bed-ridden for months, according to Ramkissoon.
The killer/killers then ransackedthe couple’s home and stole TT$3,500
cash along with Ramkissoon’s jewelry, which was worth thousands.
Rajdeo Ramkissoon explained that his wife had earlier withdrawn
the money to seek bail for her nephew, who been arrested by the Tunapuna
police.
“I don’t know who she spoke to that night to let them know that she
had all that money in the house,” he said.
“Right now in this country it have too much drugs and when them pipers
and them looking for their money they will kill for it so the murders
cannot stop. “I would really like to see the police hold the man responsible
for this,” he said.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
