Cove Spring House, Barbados: After a successful Test Match against Zimbabwe, the West Indies team was treated to a Caribbean Fete hosted by Caribbean Premier League founder, Ajmal Khan, at his home in Barbados, Cove Spring House.
Khan welcomed the team stating: “Congrats to the West Indies team on a decisive win over Zimbabwe. We are so pleased this event is not only a CPL introduction for the team but also a victory celebration.”
The Caribbean Fete, held on Saturday, was attended by Caribbean cricket Legends such as Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Wes Hall, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes and Joel Garner. Also in attendance were the six CPL Franchise players: Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels, Sunil Narine and the entire West Indies team. The Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds teased and pleased the 120 guests with a 60 minute set, beginning with a surprise birthday tribute to Windies coach, Ottis Gibson, and ending with a special Soca-whining lesson for Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo.
Delectable Caribbean cuisine, beautiful women, waist-line-moving music and the friendliest people in the world, were all on display on Saturday.
Khan said that this is exactly what the world will see during CPL this summer:”CPL is not just about cricket, it is about the Caribbean Lifestyle. I made the Caribbean a home 15 years ago and I have fallen in love with what this region has to offer. I want the entire world to see and feel the lifestyle and it will all be seen at CPL,” he said.
The event offered Khan the opportunity to get to know the West Indies players and them to know him.
Dwayne Bravo was one of the players who enjoyed the evening.
“As an introduction to the CPL this event was incredible. The night was totally first class and getting a chance to know Mr. Khan more and hear about the exciting plans for the CPL was really great,” said Bravo.
The Caribbean Premier League is set to begin on July 29 and end on August 26, with 32 matches played in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago, and will be watched by audiences all around the world.
