Quincy Craig netted a double to lead the Guyana Defence Force to a 4-1 victory over Stewartville and a spot in the quarter-finals of the 18th annual Mayor’s Cup Sunday night at the Den Amstel ground.
The other goal scorers were Sherman Caesar who scored in the 61st minute and Delwyn Fraser who netted in the 89th minute.
Kwame Hyman scored in the 81st minute for the Stewartville unit.
Slingerz FC also booked their quarter-final spot by defeating Northern Rangers FC 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 0-0 at the end of regulation and extra time.
On Saturday night, Santos FC defeated Bakewell Buxton Stars 3-0 at the Beterverwagting Ground.
Santos captain Jermaine Frasier scored in the 31st minute for a 1-0 lead at half time while Ryan Seales netted in the 68th minute and Jermaine Bamfield put the issue beyond doubt in the 75th minute.
In the second game Saturday evening, Georgetown Football Club (GFC) overcame a spirited BV Triumph unit to win 2-1.
Teshawn Hicks and Teshawn Blackman netted in the second and 14th minutes for the winners while with national striker Delroy Dean was on target in a losing effort in the 11th minute.
Action continues tomorrow at the GFC ground Bourda with Sunburst Camptown engaging Golden Grove FC in the opening game from 6.30pm while Fruta Conquerors will tackle Mahaica in the feature contest from 8.30pm.
