A momentous phenomenon is currently taking place in many Mandirs and Hindu homes which should not be allowed to be played down or brushed aside. Beginning from Maha Shiva Ratree, a most auspicious day in the Hindu calendar, all Murtis (idols) have been actually consuming milk and water. However, some try to explain away this phenomenon by saying that the Murtis are made of concrete and other such materials which can absorb liquids. They claim that most are made from moulds, which leave a hollow inside, where the liquid can be stored.
Firstly, these murtis are solid cast; they are not ‘hollow’. Secondly, liquids cannot penetrate or be absorbed through a painted surface, and these concrete murtis are heavily painted, including the ‘mouths’. Thirdly, many murtis are made of marble, stone, brass and plastic which do not absorb liquids. Also, these murtis are in a vertical position making penetration most difficult. The Bhagawad Gita says: “He who offers to Me, with love, a fruit, flower or water, I partake of that offering.” The Lord is proving the truth of that statement. In our Poojaa, one of the rituals is the offering of water and milk to the Deity. These phenomena are of a divine nature. They fortify people’s belief and faith in God.
I ask of Hindus to continue to keep the ‘faith’. To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.
