Innings victory for TSC, GDF in Hadi’s first division cricket Trevon Griffith slams 116

Transport Cricket Club (TSC) and the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) recorded innings victories over the Guyana Defence Force and Police Sports Club respectively in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Hadi’s Mall Incorporated first division competition last weekend.
In Queenstown, DCC completely outclassed PSC winning by an innings and 125 runs.
Batting first, DCC scored 351-6 declared with national opener Trevon Griffith slamming 116. Griffith struck 15 fours and one and was supported by half centuries from Andrew Gibson (67) and Christopher Barnwell (66).
Kemol Savory chipped in with 30.
Griffith and Barnwell added an even 150 for the third wicket, following the early demise of Andrew Lyght Jr. for 29 and Brian Sattaur (0).
Randolph Knights took 2 for 40 for PSC, who were 27 for 2 at the close of play on the first day.
Before the start of play on day two, Police’s Darson La Rose was struck over his right eye by a ball during the team’s warm up leaving their team a player short.
Police duly conceded a massive 265-run lead as they were forced to close their innings at 86 for 9.
Reginald Rodrigues hit 27 and Jason Heyliger 21 as Kevin George bagged 4-16, Orlando Sturge 2 for 19 and Andre Stoll 2 for 33.
Following on, Police closed their innings at 140 for 9 off 36 overs, with Pernell London hitting an unbeaten 33. Off spinner Orlando Sturge claimed 3 for 47, Stoll 2 for 7 and Griffith 2 for 13.
At the Malteenoes Sports Club ground, Thomas Lands, TSC won the toss and batted on the newly resurfaced track, posting 302 for 9 declared.
Devon Nandan top scored with 66 while Stephen Alves, 49, Keon Morris, 42, and Charwayne McPherson, 37 were also among the runs.
Roger Aaron and Paul Castello took three wickets each for 43 and 59 runs respectively for GDF, who in reply had slumped to 60-7 at the end of the first day with former national Under 15 pacer Ewert Samuels, grabbing 5 for 24.
Morris picked up the other two wickets to fall for 20 runs. They were eventually dismissed for 110 Castello top scoring with 31 while Nakeitha Nestor hit 29 and Aaron defeated 24.
Samuels ended with 5 for 46, Morris 3 for 24 and Kevin Ross 2 for 13.
Behind by 192 runs, GDF was asked to follow on, but their batsmen again came up short and they were dismissed for 134. Damion Ross (39) and Marcus Watkins (24) were the only batsmen to spend significant time at the crease. Veteran medium pacer Shaun Massiah took 3 for 11 and Ross 2 for 43. At Everest, Malteenoes Sports Club, won the toss against the home side and batted but were bowled out for 154 off 45.1 overs.
Regular skipper Steven Jacobs returned to add stability to the young side and duly top scored with 68. He added 79 for the third wicket with Vishal Narayan who made 34.
Troy Gonsalves and Amir Khan took four wickets each for 47 and 71 runs respectively for Everest who reached 169 for 4 off 58 overs at the close of play.
On Sunday, the home team stretched its lead to 89 thanks to 88 from Chanderpaul Hemraj, an innings which contained 11 boundaries.
Raphael Singh contributed 23 and Gonsalves 21. Shaquille Williams took 4 for 55 and Jermaine Joseph 3 for 33 for Malteenoes who, in their second innings reached 181 for 5 when play was called off by the umpires.
Jacobs struck eight fours and one six in his innings of 77 while left hander Kwame Crosse played the supporting hand in an important third wicket stand. He made 72 which included 10 fours.
