Magistrate Judy Latchman granted $90,000 bail to a 26-year-old man accused of throwing a bottle at his girlfriend, among other charges, when he was yesterday arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Daniel Younge, of 29 East La Penitence is that on March 15, at West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme he unlawfully assaulted Christine Marks and Makeida Wakefield.
It was also alleged that on March 16, at West Ruimveldt, he threw a bottle at Wakefield. It was further alleged that on March 18, at the Brickdam Police Station he made use of threatening language to Wakefield, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.
Younge who appeared in court without counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt objected to bail on the grounds that Younge and Wakefield share an intimate relationship and they reside at the same location. He also said Younge has a history of abuse and if given his pre-trial liberty he will continue to abuse Wakefield. Hunt further told the court that Younge dealt Wakefield several cuffs about her body.
The magistrate granted Younge bail in the sum of $20,000 on each assault charge, $30,000 on the threatening language charge and $20,000 on the charge of throwing a missile.
He was ordered to appear in court on April 17.
