Roger Peroune, Ernie Moses, Kristina Cheeks and Tiffany Lowe were the outstanding karatekas when the Guyana Shotokan Karate Association held its Mashramani tournament at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) dojo Thomas Lands last Sunday.
Peroune copped first place in both displays of kata and kumite while Moses also placed first in both of his categories.
The female 17-19 age group category was dominated by Cheeks who secured first places in both the kata and kumite classes while Tiffany Lowe got the better of Kelly-Ann Fortune in the female 12-16 years category.
Xavier Pratt was the winner of the boys’ 6-7 years kata competition while Keyah Barker won the kumite category.
In the 8-10 years age group, Matthew Gurahoo and Ronald Lowe won the boys’ kata and kumite categories respectively while in the Alexander Cheeks and Tariq Dundas won the kata and kumite categories in the boys 11-13 years category.
Shaquille Agard won the 14-16 years boys’ kata and Nixon Cheeks the kumite.
