A 19-year-old man charged with break and enter and larceny to the value of $140,000 was granted $85,000 bail when he was arraigned before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Eric McPhoy, of 35-36 Stevedore Housing Scheme is that between March 15 and March 17, at Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Somora Nievelder and stole an L7 phone valued $10,000; a quantity of foodstuff valued $15,000; a quantity of clothing valued $35,000 and a gold band valued $80,000, all to a total value of $145,000, property of Nievelder.
McPhoy, who was unrepresented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Police Corporal Denise Booker told the court that McPhoy and Nievelder are known to each other. She said that on the said day, Nievelder secured his home and went to visit his girlfriend. On his return on March 17, around 11.30am, he noticed that the items mentioned in the charge were missing and he reported the matter to the police.
McPhoy was later arrested and charged.
The prosecution also said that two louvre windows were removed to gain entry into Nievelder’s premises. No objections to bail were submitted.
