The Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBCHA) on Thursday donated over $80,000 to Help and Shelter after raising the money through a Valentine’s Day fund raising raffle.
The funds were donated to support Help and Shelter’s outreach education activities to reduce violence.
GBCHA, in a press release, said it initially mobilised its members to respond to HIV/AIDS, but recently expanded its work to address Gender Based Violence (GBV). As a result, through partnerships with Help and Shelter and other NGOs, GBCHA will raise awareness among staff of member companies to help prevent GBV.
The winners of the raffle were Brian Gowkarran (first prize), Ian Patrick (second prize), Seon Simon (third prize) and Shawn Holder (fourth prize). The Coalition expressed thanks to Wilderness Explorers, Splashmins Resort, Topaz and Hotel Tower for their contributions towards the raffle.
