The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 15s rugby team defeated the Yamaha Caribs, 31-22 yesterday when the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) season officially kicked off at the National Park rugby field.
Tries by national players Avery Corbin, Dwayne Schroeder and Rodwell Hutson enabled the soldiers to run away with the victory.
Breon Walks and Terrence Daniels scored a try apiece while Joseph Rahaman, Cordell Carrington and Clive Prowell chipped in with conversions to hand Caribs the defeat.
Two first half tries by national players Claudius Butts was not enough to earn Caribs the victory.
