A miner was shot yesterday at Kurupung Landing, Mazaruni by a policeman after he resisted arrest and bit another law enforcer.
Police say that at about 0020h yesterday, two police ranks responded to a report of wounding committed on a woman at Kurupung Landing, Mazaruni.
During efforts by Police Constable 20640 Craigan, who was unarmed, to arrest the suspect, miner Sean McDonald, 30 years, of Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown, the suspect attacked the rank and bit him in his face.
Police said that McDonald continued to bite the Constable despite efforts to get him to stop, forcing the other rank who was armed with his service firearm to resort to the use of force and he was shot to his right thigh.
Constable Craigan and McDonald were taken to the medical centre at Kurupung and have been referred to Georgetown. Efforts are being made to get them to the city for further medical attention, police said.
