The police are investigating three accidents that claimed the lives of three men yesterday and today.
A police release today said that a fatal accident at about 2050h yesterday at Tain Public Road, Corentyne resulted in the death of Sase Narine, 50 years, of Section ‘A’, Bloomfield, Corentyne.
Police say investigations have revealed that Narine was driving motor car HC 1965 along the roadway when it is alleged that while overtaking a line of vehicles, he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a trench. He was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced DOA.
A post-mortem examination was today performed on the body by Pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan, who gave the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning, police said.
The police are also investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 2130h yesterday at Bee Hive Public Road, ECD, and which resulted in
the death of motorcyclist Denishram Prashad, 34 years, of Unity, Mahaica, ECD.
Police say that investigations have revealed that the driver of motor truck GJJ 5901 was proceeding along the roadway, when it is alleged that while overtaking a line of vehicles he struck down the motorcyclist. The driver of the truck fled the scene, police said.
Prashad was taken to the GPHC where he was pronounced DOA. Investigations are in progress.
The police are also probing a fatal accident that occurred at about 0800h. today at Mandela Avenue and the Houston Bypass, Georgetown, and which resulted in the death of Royston Smith, 53 years, of Northeast La Penitence, Georgetown.
Police say that investigations revealed that the driver of motor lorry GJJ 3745 had stopped at the traffic lights as he was proceeding along the Houston Bypass. Smith was in a wheelchair soliciting alms from motorists, when he is reported to have fallen out of the wheelchair and into the path of the motor lorry which moved off as the traffic light had changed to green.
Police say that Smith was run over by the lorry and was taken to the GPHC where he later succumbed.
The driver of the motor lorry is in police custody assisting with the probe.
