The third annual Georgetown Cricket Association/Brainstreet Under-15 tournament got underway at various grounds across the country last weekend.
Defending champions the Demerara Cricket Club (A) defeated their (B) team by 99 runs over at the Muslim Youth Organization Ground. Chasing 141 for victory DCC (B) were bowled out for 42 in 12.4 overs. None of the batsmen reached double figures. Otto Jones 4-12 and Loncel Martin 2-10 were the pick of the bowlers.
Earlier the DCC (B) bowlers conceded 60 runs in extras while Alphius Bookie (23) and Christian Torrington (21) were the top scorers for DCC (A). Dewan Skette grabbed 2-15 off three overs.
Over at the Everest Cricket Club, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) lost by one run to Everest. Batting first, GCC managed 98 all out in 29.2 overs with 46 of their runs coming in extras. Ralwayne Payne with 15 was the top scorer. Kishan Singh 3-6 and Bisham Mohabir 3-34 were the wicket takers.
Chasing 98 for victory, Everest raced to 99-2 in 16 overs with Bisham Mohabir (21) seeing his team home. Bowling for GCC Payne grabbed 1-2.
Gandhi Sports Club (GYO) handed last year’s runners up Transport Sports Club an upset victory defeating them by 10 runs. Batting first Gandhi posted 111 all out in 29 overs with Srichand Gangaran (26) and Prakash Debidyal (20) leading with the bat. Spearheading the bowling for Transport was Jamal Michael who grabbed 5-10 off four overs and was supported by Tony Adjodha who picked up 2-10 off his two.
Set at 111 for victory, Transport fell short of the target being bowled out in 34 overs; Akeal Hiles (21) was the only batsman to make a significant score while Reon Norville and Satanand Ramkumar bagged three wickets apiece.
The action continues today at 9:00hrs with Queen’s College taking on Everest at GNIC ground while DCC (A) will play Transport at Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground.
Over at Gandhi Youth Organization Ground GYO will face GNIC, meanwhile the Guyana Cricket Association (GCA) ladies team will do battle against DCC (B) team.
