An employee of Toucan Industries was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Alan Wilson, after it was alleged that he stole $111,065 from the company.
The allegation against Shemroy Saul, 27, is that on February 6, at Georgetown while being employed as a clerk at the company, he stole $91,065.
It was further alleged that on January 25, he also stole $20,000 from the company.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Saul’s attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat in an application to secure his client’s pretrial liberty informed the court that Saul posses no risk of flight since he resides at 80 Section ‘C’, Diamond Housing Scheme. He said Saul did not steal any money from the company. He added that his client was robbed of the money while he was in the market.
Counsel said that his client was willing to compensate the company and asked that he be admitted to bail in a reasonable sum, stating that he has no antecedents.
Police Inspector Burgett Grant did not object to Saul being admitted to bail. However, she requested some special conditions. She asked that the defendant lodge his passport with the police and report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Fraud Squad at the Brickdam Police Station to Constable Navrendra Persuad.
