A man was yesterday released on $15,000 bail after he was charged with assaulting his blind uncle, when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Alan Wilson heard that on March 14, at Pigeon Place, South Ruimveldt Park Collin Anthony, 32, of 163 Pigeon Place South Ruimveldt Park assaulted Dexter Harry, 41, so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
Anthony who was unrepresented by an attorney pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor Renetta Bentham did not object to the defendant being admitted to bail. She however asked that he be placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.
Harry told the court that his nephew should be remanded to prison because after he was assaulted by him, he was left lying on the road and it was neighbours who went to his assistance and gave him pain tablets.
Anthony was subsequently placed on $15,000 bail and a bond to keep the peace.
He will make his next court appearance on May 6, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
