A woman was granted $5,000 bail after she was charged with assault when she made an appearance before Magistrate Alan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that on March 19, at Light Street, Georgetown, Juanita Williams, 33, unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Delilah Browne.
Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her.
Williams’s lawyer Paul Fung-a-Fat asked that bail be granted in a reasonable sum since she is the mother of four and she has a fixed place of abode at 3 Lamaha Street, Queenstown.
Counsel further related that on the night in question, Williams was drinking with a friend at Rocky’s Night Club when Browne insulted her. He said that an argument broke out between the two women and after Browne lashed his client with a beer bottle, she defended herself.
The magistrate then granted the defendant bail in the sum of $5,000.
She was ordered to return to court on May 6.
