Action in the Mayor’s Cup football tournament continues today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground Bourda with quarterfinal fixtures scheduled to commence at 18:30hrs.
Opening up the programmed engagements will see host team GFC taking on the nation’s leading club outfit Alpha United in what is expected to be a keenly contested fixture.
Buoyed by their recent succession over Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League teams B.V. Triumph and Western Tigers, GFC will look to fashion the biggest upset to date when they oppose `The Hammer’ come opening whistle.
Led by talented quartet of Teshawn Blackman, Dexter Rutherford, Gregory Denny and Delon Cadogan, a cautious approach is the way forward if victory is to be realised against the mighty Alpha unit led by their triumvirate of Anthony Abrams, Gregory Richardson and Andrew Murray.
While in the feature engagement of the evening at 20:30hrs, West Side outfit Slingerz FC will oppose Camptown FC is what is expected to be a closely fought match up. Led by Dwain Jacobs, Joshua Browne and Anthony Harding, Slingerz will look to dispose of their capable antagonists when kick off time sounds. Standing in their way and leading the Campbellville outfit’s charge will be Reshawn Sandiford, Devon Forde, Telson McKinnon and Peter Parks who will be looking to send the newly formed West Side unit home early.
