The Berbice Football Association (BFA) will be holding fresh elections on April 9.
The decision was announced by acting President Franklin Wilson who together with General Secretary Noel Adonis travelled to Berbice and held a meeting with the executive of the BCB and clubs.
The closed door meeting was held at the Parkway Hotel, New Amsterdam.
The reason cited were inconsistencies with the previous BFA election held on March 1.
“It was stated that there was too many inconsistencies within the electoral process as the clubs were allowed to take part in the nomination process but were not allowed to exercise their franchise because they were not in good financial standing,” a source told Stabroek Sport.
“It was made clear to all the clubs present and BFA executives that if they are not in order they won’t be able to vote at the upcoming BFA election and the association will be barred from voting at the upcoming GFF electoral congress,” the source added.
Meanwhile, President of the Cougars Football Club and BFA presidential hopeful Phillip Carrington, in an invited comment confirmed what the source said.
Carrington said the disenfranchised clubs now have an opportunity to get their houses in order and to participate in the new election. Carrington added that having fresh elections is in the best interest of football in the Berbice.
Paradise Football Club one of the four clubs prevented from voting will not be allowed to vote at the new elections as it not a full member and will have to wait until it has served one year before gaining the status of full member.
The clubs now eligible to vote are now Rosignol United, Corriverton Links, New Amsterdam United, Cougars and Monedderlust Football Clubs.
The BFA held elections on March 16 in which Keith O’Jeer was reelected president after it was found that two of six clubs were eligible to vote. The two were Rosignol United and Corriverton Links.
The other clubs were found not be in good standing because they failed to produced audited financial statements.
The association also did not provide an audited financial report. This saw the four disenfranchised clubs to launch a protest regarding outcome of the elections.
