Everest Hikers defeated Old Fort 3-0 as league action in the John Fernandes Insurance Service (JFIS) second division hockey tourney continued at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground on Sunday with one fixture beginning at 14:30hrs.
On target for Hikers were Shameer Bagwandin, Jamarj Assanah and Robert Brummell in the 30th, 35th and 56th minutes respectively.
On Saturday, Airbenders defeated Saints 2-0 on penalty kicks after regulation time found both units locked on one goal each.
Opening the scoring for Airbenders in regulation time was Avonda James who converted in the 29th minute while Hilton Chester equalized for Saints in the 52nd minute.
In the feature contest on Saturday, GCC, compliments of a Leonard George double in the 38th and 57th minutes came from behind to edge All Greys 3-2. Behind the eight ball through strikes from Brunette Gordon and Timothy Jonas in the 18th and 21st minutes respectively, GCC would restore parity to proceedings through George’s two goals while completing the comeback from a Trevon Smith effort in the 63rd minute.
Action continues tomorrow and this weekend with six scheduled fixtures programmed to commence at the GCC ground from 14:30hrs. Tomorrow, Old Fort opposes Saints in the opening matchup while Everest Hikers takes on GCC in the feature contest while on Saturday Hikers faces off against Airbenders in the first match while All Grey’s will tackle Saints in the feature engagement.
On Sunday GCC will lock horns with Old Fort in the opening contest and Hikers will face off against Saints in the feature meeting of the day.
