Guyana’s quarter-mile, Stephan James on Sunday evening placed second in the men’s 400m at the Falcon Games held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago.
James, of the Running Braves, clocked a personal best time of 46.96 seconds in finishing second to Jereem Richards of Abilene Wildcats who won the event in a time of 46.51 seconds.
Third was Jehue Gordon of Memphis Pioneers’ who clocked 46.99 seconds.
James told the Trinidad media afterwards that he had a breakdown during the race as the 400m was delayed on numerous occasions.
“They had you warming up then they said the race is one time and then you warm up and get cold and all of that break you down going into the race,” he said during the interview.
Ornesto Thomas of the University of Guyana Track and Field Club (UGTFC) won gold in the boys’ U18 1500m after finishing third in the 800m on Saturday.
Thomas won the race in 4:14.69 seconds ahead of Cougars’ Ashton Gill and Simplex’s Haleem Alexander who finished second and third respectively in 4:22.59 seconds and 4:28.75 seconds.
Andrea Foster also won a bronze medal in the women’s 1500m after running an outstanding 3000m on the first day of the Games. Grenada’s Kenesha Pascal won the race in 4:44.00 seconds while Dawnell Collymore of Memphis Pioneers was the second place winner in 4:53.54 seconds. Foster clocked 4:59.59 seconds.
UGTFC athlete, Stephon Josiah threw his way to a bronze medal in the men’s javelin event with a throw of 51.92m. Barbados CARIFTA’s Janeil Craigg won the event in 61.94m while Donny Joseph of Dominica was second with 53.40m.
