A day after he went to have a swim with friends, the lifeless body of a Regma Primary School student was yesterday morning fished out of a “blue lake” behind Old Kara Kara in Linden.
Dead is nine-year-old Jamal De Jonge, a Grade Four pupil.
A relative told Stabroek News yesterday that the child was among several others who went to the area to celebrate an aunt’s birthday. The aunt’s sister and her boyfriend were also part of the gathering. According to reports, the last time De Jonge was seen alive, he was “flicking” and splashing around in the water.
He was not seen after and it was suspected that he went home although his slippers were found near the water.
After relatives failed to locate him, divers began searching the water and his body was found around midday.
His body is at the Wismar Morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Relatives and persons who knew the boy described him as very energetic.
