Popular softball team Floodlights downed their softball bats and balls to take on the Brazilian miners in two games of football last Friday evening at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground. The first match, which was held in honour of Ramchand Raghubeer, who celebrated his 59th birthday, was a bruising encounter which saw the Brazilians edging Floodlight in the last two minutes to win by six goals to five.
Floodlight scored early in the first 10 minutes but by half time the score was locked at two goals each. Towards the end of regulation time the score was 5-5 but the Brazilians were able to score their sixth goal in the last two minutes.
Kurt Alli, Floodlight player of the match, scored two goals with Ronnie Sanmogan, Ronald Donald Francis and Arjune Badal scoring one each. Diego Souza, the Brazilian player of the match scored three goals with Abley Jefferson Reis, Anderson and Earnesto scoring one each. In the second encounter Floodlights defeated the Brazilian 3-1 in a penalty shootout.
Floodlights will now take on the Brazilian in softball cricket on April 12.
