At least four former Guyana Open champions are expected to be in action at this weekend’s Demerara Mutual Medal Play golf tournament at the Lusignan golf Club.
Visiting Canadian-based Jaipaul Seenanan is a present in Guyana and will compete in the tournament alongside Alfred Mentore, Imran Khan and Mohanlall Dinnauth all former champions.
3Reigning National men’s champion Avinash Persaud is also expected to be in contention as well as 2012 Demerara Mutual champion Munaff Arjune.
Arjune produced a premium performance to win the tournament last year and will be going all out to retain his title in the tournament which is expected to attract a large field of players.
Jerome Khan, President of the Lusignan Golf Club said the club is buzzing with excitement as both local and foreign players are eagerly awaiting Saturday’s showdown.
According to Khan several foreign players are in Guyana for the Phagwah and Easter weekend including William Haynes of the United Kingdom who won a prize at the last Torginol Paint tournament recently.
Patrick Prashad, a previous winner of the Demerara Mutual tournament will also be in action.
The lineup will also include National men’s champion Mark Lashley, Carlos Adams, Colin Ming, Ronald Bulkan, Mike Guyadin, William Walker, Robert Hanoman, Christine Sukhram, Maurice Solomon, Clifford Reis, Dave Mohamed, Kishan Bacchus, Chatterpaul Deo, Troy Cadogan, Gavin Todd, Muntaz Hanniff, Kassim Khan, Brian Hackett, Albert Semple and Ayube Ali.
Jerome Khan said the course is in excellent condition and the greens are fast and challenging.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers as well as Nearest to the Pin, Best Net and Best Gross.
Officials of Demerara Mutual, one of oldest insurance companies in Guyana will be on hand to assist in the presentation of prizes Tee off is at 12:30 hours.
