Vacancies have been advertised to fill the post of director and 13 other positions in the Guyana Police Force’s Forensic Science Laboratory.
The other posts advertised are senior science officer, an evidence officer, quality control officer, forensic support officer, forensic liaison officer, information systems officer, operations officer, assistant accountant, security officers and forensic support officers for the administrative department as well as the information systems.
The positions of director, senior science officer, quality control officer and operations officer require post-graduate qualification in the sciences or related discipline or a
Bachelor of Science degree in the respective science field with ten years experience for the director and from three to five years of experience for the other posts.

Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh on Monday announced that the Forensic Science Laboratory would be completed and is expected to become operational in the latter part of the year.
“This new state-of-the-art laboratory will make a significant impact by providing sound scientific basis for investigations and expert testimony to support the adjudication of cases, and will thus raise the quality of analysis that can be carried out in our country to international standards,” he told the National Assembly, during his presentation of the government’s proposed 2013 national budget.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also advertised for a Head of Unit, incident handlers and help desk trainees for the soon-to-be established Guyana National Computer Incident Response Team (GNCIRT).
This agency will be responsible for preparing and managing the response to computer incidents within all government agencies by way of security controls and the sharing of information.
The Head of Unit job portfolio comes with the expectation that the applicant will be able to develop and execute all aspects of the plans and operations that the GNCIRT may require in order to meet its mandate. In addition, the job holder should also be able to represent the strategic critical information infrastructure protection and information security vision of the Government of Guyana in interagency and cross-functional organisation meetings and provide strategic direction, supervise and facilitate the work of GNCIRT members.
The position requires a Masters Degree in Computer Science/I nformation Technology/ Information Systems Management/ Information Security Management, Telecom-munications, Network Systems or equivalent qualification from a recognised university, along with IT Security Certification or Network Certification such as CISM, CCNP, MCSE or equivalent certification. Applicants should also possess at least five years of experience in the management or development and implementation of IT security systems, especially in government, financial, military or law enforcement institutions along with excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong presentation skills. A monthly salary of $301,888 is proposed for the successful applicant.
